I have previously written to the effect, that whether we like it or not, we are and have been in the midst of a second Cold War, or Cold War II with the Communists of Russia and China. This latest expose of fine journalism by the Press -- finally, at least on one issue -- reminds those who refuse to face the harsh reality that our enemies past are still are enemies present because THEY want to be. Benevolent relations is a good thing in respect to trade and cultural exchanges, but it is always conditional and often more temporary because of necessity than we might like by military and national security necessity.
The London Daily Telegraph Reports:
Major Chinese internet hacking base exposed
It looks like any other Shanghai office building but a nondescript tower block has been identified as the nerve centre of one of the world's most dangerous military cyber-hacking operations.
By Tom Phillips, Shanghai
11:48AM GMT 19 Feb 2013
American computer analysts have traced more than 100 attacks on government departments, companies and journalists to the site of the 12-storey building about 40 minutes outside Shanghai's city centre.
A 60-page report by Mandiant, a computer security company, said the headquarters of People's Liberation Army Unit 61398 was located in the compound.
...
The Mandiant report said a hacking network named the Comment Crew or the 'Shanghai Group' operated from the compound. It said "hundreds, and perhaps thousands of people" were working inside to breach the security of global corporations, as well as foreign power grids, gas lines and waterworks. ...."

Brietbart also reminds us of Last Year's October 1, 2012 article where Chinese hackers almost accessed our Nuclear ICBM launch codes:
Chinese Hackers Breach White House Military Office Computers
1 Oct 2012
Chinese hackers breached the White House Military Office (WHMO) computer system in early September. This system contains highly sensitive information on U.S. nuclear codes.
This network not only contains nuclear commands, but also presidential travel details, communications, and other sensitive information reserved for "senior policy and intelligence officials." The WHMO also contains the secret information contained in the "nuclear football," which stays with the president at all times in the event that nuclear launches are necessary.Because no one knows how much information such a breach could uncover, it is unclear how much information might have been seen by the Chinese hackers.
Anonymous officials believe this was the work of Chinese Military Cyber Warfare Specialists.

A big thank you to
Mandiant for the Press release, and at least some sensibility left in the Press
to publish about it.
