My Commentary:
Jerusalem divided in its Three Essential Word Roots in the Hebrew can be translated to mean: "YH's Shout / Proclamation of Peace". It is not a translation most are familiar with, but it is clearly and plainly there.
In verses 15 to 16, we see that the New Jerusalem is 12,000 furlongs or stadia. At a distance of 607 feet, although it could vary slightly longer to as much as 630 feet, at 607 feet to one stadia, the distance of 12,000 stadia is about 1,606.9 miles or about 2674 kilometers.
The Height of New Jerusalem is therefore as a cube 1,606.9 miles high, wide, and deep. To put this in contrast, the Earth's moon has a diameter of about 2,160 miles and orbits the Earth generally from a distance of 221,600 to 252,950 miles.
In verse 12, the Greek places the Angel of the gate, or of each Gate, as upon or over the Gate entrance or portal. I assume this will be a slightly jutting platform of some type, just far enough out for one angel to stand upon and watch over the Gate and all those who enter.
In Deuteronomy 16:18-20, the Gate area was a place for judging by the elders of the Land as the lower court, or first tier of the ancient judicial system. Since the Bible is GOD's Word, and since Paul talked about humans judging angels (1 Corinthians 6:1-3), perhaps in such a context; if that context is accurately perceived and not mistaken on my part, then it seems to me that we will likely see two seats after the pattern of the Father and the Lamb somewhere in the 216 feet depth of the Gate - Gateway - [arched] portal of Pearl, or just barely past it (still at the Gate) and barely within the wall at the very Gate inside the City.
Of interest to me, and perhaps to you, will be that as you pass inside the Gate - Gateway - [arched] portal of Pearl, it seems to me that based on various passages of Scripture (e.g. Nehemiah 11:19, 1 Chronicles 9:19-33, et al.) there will be choirs of singers (perhaps a mixture of Cherubim, angels and humans...I don't know) that will sing without ceasing off to either one side or perhaps both sides of the entrance ways, so that the Psalms might be fulfilled:
Psalm 100
King James Version (KJV)
1Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
Psalm 118 (KJV)
19Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD:
20This gate of the LORD, into which the righteous shall enter.
