Acts 2

King James Version (KJV)
Alternate Word Pictures with Reiterations (AWPR)

Alternate Word Pictures with Reiterations (AWPR) will appear in yellow below the King James Version (KJV), and my comments in green.

1  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.   (KJV)

     1)        And in the fulfilling of the 50th Day –

And in the fulfilling of the Day of  Pentecost
         [also known as Shavuot],
they were universally – wholly – all  together beyond opinion,

and moved in expectation (as with one mind) upon the same.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.    (KJV)

      2)    And (it) came into being (that) suddenly and without warning,

out of Heaven a resounding echo sounding exactly like

violent blowing as a rushing mighty wind

      (in resounding echoes);

and it completely filled all the House
where they were sitting down.    (AWPR)

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.     (KJV)

      3)    And to them,  was seen –

perceived with the eyes and looked upon,

tongues, as though (they) were fire,

      being separated into parts divided up and distributed;

and on each and every one of them separately

it was caused to sit down and rest.     (AWPR)

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.     (KJV)

     4)       And they were all of the Holy Spirit made completely full,

        as filled to the brim,

and (they) began to talk at random in different other

        languages / tongues

        as according to the Spirit

Whom gave of His own accord and good will

to them to utter – declare intelligible, concise

        and knowable words from.   (AWPR)

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.     (KJV)

      5)    Were then, in Jerusalem,

residing and living in permanent dwelling-places

devout men of the Jews from every ethnic nation

      under the Heaven,

(devout men of the Jews) who properly took up and

carried away (the faith of their namesake
[as GOD fearers, and  “the Praise of YH”]).

6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.     (KJV)

      6)    This sound then, coming into existence,

the multitude (the whole fullness of the people)

came and were poured together as excited, amazed, confused,

because they heard into each one,

      speaking their own dialect.      (AWPR)

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?      (KJV)

      7)     Then all were standing out

(as though they were beside themselves)

[as though they were out of their minds

having an hallucinatory out of body experience],

and were struck with admiration and astonishment,

       laying down definite words,

saying up alongside and with one another,

          ‘Behold! Look and see!

Are these certainly not those Galileans

           speaking at random?’

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?     (KJV)

      8)    And, ‘By what means –  In what manner or way

(do) we, each and every one separately,

hear them speaking in the private and particular dialect
of us in which we were born?'     (AWPR)

9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,     (KJV)

     9)    Parthians and Medes and Elamites and those

residing and living in permanent dwelling-places: Mesopotamia?

     both Judea and Cappodocia;

     Pontus and Asia;

10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,       (KJV)

10)   Both Phrygia and Pamphylia,

         Egypt and the sides of Libya down – against Cyrene;

and the Roman sojourners / strangers / resident aliens

         in – among the people,

         both Jews and proselytes
[foreigners adopted into the faith and tribes of Israel].

11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.      (KJV)

11)   Cretans and Arabians:

we attentively hear – listen to them speaking at random

        in our own languages

        the gloriously great wonderful works

        and deeds of GOD?       (AWPR)

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?     (KJV)

12)   All then, were standing out

(as though beside themselves / as though having an

out of body experience [and being out of their minds])

        and were thoroughly without resource

in how to grasp it all – were perplexed,

others of the like kind up alongside and with others

of the like kind (were) laying down definite words, saying,

‘What, perhaps, would you have in mind

and desire this to be?’       (AWPR)

13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.     (KJV)

13)   Then different others joked- scoffed – mocked – derided

(and) laid down definite words, said,

‘Because of sweet wine are they filled up.’

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:     (KJV)

      14)   Then standing (as though set in place),

Peter with the Eleven raised –hoisted up upon

               the voice of him:

[that is, those with Peter in unison repeated Peter’s words,

as a group megaphoning what he was saying ]

‘Men, Judeans, and all who live and reside in Jerusalem

                         in permanent dwelling-places.

Let this be made known to you,

and into the ear receive (listen intently),

hear the spoken words of me.

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.     (KJV)

15)    For these are certainly not drunk and carousing
         as you suppose or take (them to be);
         because it is the 3rd hour of the Day [ca. 9 a.m. ];

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;      (KJV)

16)    But it is this thing
being spoken through the prophet Joel:   (AWPR)

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:      (KJV)

17)              ‘And it shall be in the Last Days,’
says GOD laying down definite words,
‘I will pour / spill out from the Spirit of Me
                    upon all flesh,
and the sons of you and the daughters of you
                    will foretell things to come;
and the young men of you
will see – look at – perceive with the eyes
[as though transparent dreams shown them as if a
movie while they remain awake and eyes wide open]
and the elders / presbyters of you will dreams within dreams.

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:     (KJV)

 18)             And upon the male slaves / servants of Me,
and upon the female slaves / servants of Me,
                   in those days,
I will pour / spill out from the Spirit of Me,
and  they will foretell the future / and they [too] will prophesy.

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:     (KJV)

19)              And I will give of My own good will and accord
amazing miracles in the Heaven above
                   that will be watched and surely remembered;
                   and signs
[those miracles serving GOD's specific Spiritual purpose]
                   upon the Earth below:
blood and fire and dense clouds [pillars / columns] of smoke.

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:     (KJV)

20)              The sun will be turned   [for the worse]  into darkness,
                   and the moon into blood
before comes the Great and Shining Day of YHVeH /
before comes the Great and Shining Day of (the) LORD.

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.      (KJV)

21)              And it will be that all who call upon the name of  YHVeH  /

And it will be that all who call upon the name of  (the) LORD

                  shall be saved.    (AWPR)

22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:      (KJV)

22)              Men, Israelites, listen – hear intently these intelligent words;
                   Yeshua – Jesus,  the Nazarene,
a man from GOD
having been  shown as approved and confirmed into you
by capable achieving powers – by miraculous mighty deeds,
and amazing miracles that were watched and remembered,
and signs [those miracles that serve a Divine purpose]
which GOD did cause – make – produce – bring about
through Him in the middle of – among you
as accordingly you yourselves also know – are (well) aware –
understand intuitively.      (AWPR)

23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:     (KJV)

23)    This One, by the beforehand resolved – by the
beforehand reflection and decree of the will
          and foreknowledge of GOD,
(was) given out and delivered up,
taken – seized – laid hold upon
          through lawless hands – hands without Law;

having crucified, you executed – slayed – murdered

24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.     (KJV)

24)               whom GOD raised up and caused to stand again
[whom GOD resurrected from the dead and made fully alive
                    and standing again]
                   having unfastened and loosed
(as though they were cords and snares)
                   the pains – sorrows of death;
because that it was certainly NOT possible
                   [for death and its cords]
To grasp - take hold of and hold Him fast,
NOR to rule over Him by it.

25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:      (KJV)

25)              Because David lays down definite words
into – concerning – as to   Him,
‘I fixed my eyes upon – I foresaw
           YHVeH – the LORD
before the face of me through all,
because out from / of (the) Right (hand / side)
           of Me, He is,
in order that I may not be moved to and fro
                              nor shaken.’

26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:      (KJV)

26)                        Through this was the heart and mind of me joyful
                             and of good cheer,
and the tongue of me exulted as though skipping
and leaping much for joy and delight.
                             Then still yet,
the flesh of me will also pitch tent
                             and dwell down therein upon hope;

27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.      (KJV)

27)                        Because you will certainly not
forsake – desert – leave behind the soul of me
                             into Hades / into Hell,
                             and also certainly not
will you forsake – desert – leave behind
the Holy – Righteous One of You
to see destructive defilement with corruption throughout.

28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.      (KJV)

28)                        You declared - made known – revealed to me
paths – highways of (eternal) life.
You will make me completely full with joyful
gladness of mind in the midst of the face of You.

29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.      (KJV)

29)              Men, brothers,
it is to be from this – it is permitted (then)
to speak – to say  with all freedom to declare
up to and alongside with you
regarding – about the Patriarch David,
                   and that he died
                   and was given funeral rites – was interred – buried;
and the memorial Sepulcher – Memorial Tomb
of him is in amongst us continually until this day.

30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;      (KJV)

30)               For this reason – certainly
living as – existing as a prophet,
seeing and knowing that with an oath
                   declared and sworn to him,
GOD, out of (the) fruit – produce of the loin
of him [David] down in (the) flesh
[did GOD promise] to raise and make stand up
the Christ – the Messhiach
to sit down upon the throne of him.

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.     (KJV)

31)              Fixing his eyes upon – foreseeing,
he spoke at random around about – concerning
the Resurrection of the Christ – the Messhiach,
that the soul of Him was certainly NOT
forsaken – deserted – left behind into Hades – into Hell,
nor / not even     the flesh of Him
saw or knew destructive defilement with corruption throughout.

32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.      (KJV)

32)              This Yeshua – This Jesus
GOD raised up and caused to stand again,
                   whereof we all
[Not just Peter with the 11, but the entire 120
Who received (upon the shoulder as at Shavuot at Sinai
With Moses in 1551 B.C.) the tongues of fire that translated]

                   are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.      (KJV)

33)              Now certainly being elevated – exalted of GOD,
a gift of promise graciously given of the Holy Spirit
accepting – receiving – taking and laying hold of,
                   near to the Father,
He poured out this which you now – at this present time
see – observe and attentively hear.

34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,      (KJV)

34)              Because David certainly (has) not ascended into the heavens:
laying down definite words then, he says,
‘said, The LORD to the LORD of me,
Sit down out of the Right (hand-side) of Me,

35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.      (KJV)

35)              Until I set in a (proper) place
the enemies (to be) the under-footing (to be walked upon)
                   [the foot-stool]
to the feet of you.     (AWPR)

36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.     (KJV)

36)              Safely, thereupon, let all the House of Israel
intently and fully know that GOD caused Him to be
                   LORD – YHVeH
                   and Christ – Messhiach:
                   this Yeshua – Jesus
whom you nailed to the Cross – whom you crucified.’

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?      (KJV)

37)             Then having attentively heard,
they were pierced through (as though stabbed)
                   in the heart,
and said up to and alongside with Peter and the remaining
                   (ones of the) apostles,
‘What shall we do men, brothers?’

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.      (KJV)

38)    Peter then answered – affirmed
up to and alongside with them,
‘Repent – change your mind and how you think,
and be baptized, each and every one of you
upon the Name of Yeshua HaMesshiach – Jesus Christ
into forgiveness – remission – putting away
of sins  [those guilt offenses to GOD],
and you will actively take and receive
the (free) gift of the Holy Spirit:

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.      (KJV)

39)              Because He is the Promise graciously given to you
and to the children of you,
even to all those a (very) long way off,
as many as may call the LORD – YHVeH
the GOD of us up alongside with (them).

40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.     (KJV)

40)      And with many other definite words
he earnestly and repeatedly bore witness,
            and aided – comforted – encouraged;
            laying down definite words, saying,
‘Be saved – delivered from this
crooked – bent – warped – perverse   generation!’

41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.      (KJV)

41)    Those indeed truly thereupon delighting joyfully,
heartily embracing and receiving the intelligent words of him
          were baptized;
and there were put up to and alongside to them /
there were added  there that day, as if 3,000 souls.

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.     (KJV)

42)    Then they were enduring up alongside and with
in the Teaching – in the Instruction    of the Apostles,
and in the Communion of Fellowship,
and in the breaking of bread,
and in the Prayers [to GOD].

43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.       (KJV)

43)    Then came into being terrifying fear (and reverence)
          to every soul,
and many miraculous wonders that were watched and remembered,
and signs [those miracles that serve a Divine purpose]
through the Apostles came into being – occurred.

44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;      (KJV)

44)    Then all the believing – trusting ones were upon themselves / were
and had – held –possessed all things common,

45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.     (KJV)

45)    And the goods of that which is possessed
                   [‘And their common property’]
and the personal property – personal possessions / goods
they traversed and trafficked upon – they sold
[in the market places, and in the ways, near and far
as sellers of goods and wares]
and separated up – divided out – distributed them to all,
according as anyone had – held – possessed
         debt – need – necessity.

46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,     (KJV)

46)    Then daily – from day to day
were enduring up alongside and with
one and the same mind – consent – accord
          in the Temple.

And from house to house breaking bread,
they too part and shared food in
exuberant joy with exultation and dancing,
           and simplicity – pure intentions of heart;

47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.     (KJV)

47)    Singing praises to GOD,  and having – holding – possessing
Grace / Favor up alongside with all the people.

Then YHVeH – Then the LORD
put up and alongside to  / added
those being saved   down Day to Day – Daily
to the ‘called out ones’  - to the ‘Church.’

It is also worthy to note that Acts Chapter 3 specifies that it picks up later that same day of Pentecost, about 6 hours later.
Acts  3:1  Upon the self-same day then,  Peter and John,
                 ascending up into the Temple,
upon the hour of prayer, the 9th.   (AWPR)

It is my view that the true Pentecost upper Room of the Southeast Temple Court subjoining both the southern wall's Royal portico, and the Eastern wall's Portico of Solomon.

The view to the left of that of the what I contend was the Temple's upper room, and the one in the Book of Acts, oversaw a very great height and drop at the Southeast Corner of the Temple Mount  {cf. Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, 15.11.5}  (before being filled in by the Romans attacking Jerusalem in A.D. 70)  and is re-created below:

Inside Royal Stoa of Alec Garrard's Temple model (© Geoff Robinson)

Again, it is my personal belief that those of the Upper Room were situated at the location of the southeast Corner of the Temple Mount,  -- which is also attached to Solomon's porch running up the East wall where Yeshua - Jesus taught from and to which they ever after for the next two decades or better congregated in --  and then spilled out into the Court of the Gentiles.

In regard to Acts 2:34-35 and the AWPR translation from the Greek, I am also adding an addendum of Psalm 110 in KJV and AWPR (as taken from the Hebrew in which the quoted passage of Psalm 110's verse 1 was originally written):

Psalm 110

1 - The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.  (KJV)

1) An oracle statement of YHVeH to    My Master / My Lord.
Sit, remain and dwell at My Right Hand /
Sit, remain and dwell at My Right Side
until I give over, setting and appointing
Your enemies who hate (You) with hostility
as a footstool for the dominion of your feet.   (AWPR)

2 - The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.  (KJV)

2)  Like an overspreading bedsheet,
the Staff of your strength shall send forth YHVeH out of Zion:
in the inner midst and among those hating You as your enemies,
tread with domnion / over-rule / and scrape (them) out.   (AWPR)

3 - Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.  (KJV)

3)  Your kinsmen from the fathers
shall do noble deeds and be willing
      in the Day of your firm enduring power and might;
(they shall be as) the adorning glorious array of you holiness,
as (those coming forth) from the womb
of the first light of the day in a pre-dawn sky lighting across the heavens,
and (shall be) as the falling / dripping dew of your childhood / youth.

4 - The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.  (KJV)

4)  YHVeH has sworn a solemn seven-fold oath,
and NOT will (He) breathe deep with sorrow / regret / or repentence
