4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh. (KJV)

4)     Then was Pesach / the Passover,

         the Feast – the Holiday of the Judeans   near – close.

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.    (KJV)

38)    For I have come and descended down out of Heaven,
          certainly not in order that I may 
          do - work - perform - produce - cause - bring about
          the will - intention - purpose  (of)

          but the will - intention - purpose of He 
          sending forth - dispatching Me (causing Me to go).

                 out of Heaven.'

                  'Is this certainly not Jesus - Yeshua,  the son of Joseph,

                   the father and the mother?
                         Accordingly - Therefore how  (is it that) this one
                   lays down definite words and says now,
                   "Out of Heaven I have come and descended down?" '

                 to come forth publicly up alongside with Me

                 pulls gently along - draws - gradually drags    him,

          the (one) hearing and listening intently 
          near to (the presence of)  the Father 
          and learning  (with understanding having understood)

49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.   (KJV)

49)   The fathers of you ate   the Manna - the What's This? 
          in the deserted wilderness - desert,  
          and died off.

50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.   (KJV)

50)   This is the Bread,  
         He out of Heaven coming and descending down
         in order that anyone  out of it may eat
         and perhaps not die off.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.   (KJV)

        He who descended and came down out of Heaven.

        If perhaps a certain one - someone eats out of this Bread,
        he will live (and exist as living)  into the Age - into the Eternal.

        Then also the Bread,  that which I will of My own good will 
        and accord give, is the flesh of Me,  that which I of My own 
        good will and accord will give over

        the eternal life of   the Caretakers - the world (of man - of mankind).'

[My Comment: 

Two passages of Scripture aid in the understanding of what Jesus is saying: 

Exodus 19:

17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with GOD; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because YHVeH descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 

19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and GOD answered him by a voice.

20 And YHVeH came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and YHVeH called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

Psalm 68:
4 Sing unto GOD, sing praises to his name: extol Him that rideth upon the heavens by his name YaH, and rejoice before him.
 8 The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of GOD: even Sinai itself was moved at the presence of GOD, the GOD of Israel.

In Psalm 68:4, YH rides the Heavens, and then in verse 8, drops the Heavens as a covering over Sinai.     Rashi concurs with this in his commentary on Exodus 19:20's "Vayeired YHVeH al Har Sinai", saying Heaven was made like a bedspread over Sinai, because GOD, in efffect,  still talked from Heaven (Exodus 20:19) WHILE BEING PRESENT AT SINAI!  The voice that all Israel heard was the one known as I AM in Exodus 3:14, in the Greek called Ho Ohn - The Being.  That person was the pre-incarnate Jesus - Yeshua, who Israel heard on Sinai and is called YHVeH and GOD by the Scriptures.  The descendants of Israel once again heard the voice, now as the fulfilled prophecies required, from in their midst, filtered through a clothing of virgin born flesh and humanity so they could bear the very sound of His voice, where they could not endure it before (Exodus 20:19).  ]

52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?   (KJV)

52)   Accordingly, the Judeans argued, physically strove and fought 
         up alongside with one another, 
         laying down definite words saying,
             'By what means - In what manner or way - How
              is this one  able - capable - empowered to
              of His own good will and accord 
              give us the flesh to eat?'

[My Comment:  There were Judeans present in and about the synagogue who followed after Jesus in order to challenge and create unbelief.  The particular Judeans who went after the crowds following Jesus to Capernaum, broke out in fighting and arguing in the Synagogue where Jesus was teaching on the passover Meal, because they took Jesus teaching of the Passover Meal, in which the Messiah is represented in symbolism in the Lamb and the second Matzoh Bread and the Wine, and then purposely created a hysteria through out of context emotional accusations, accusing cannibalism.  This nefarious tactic of steering the followers of Jesus away from the teaching on the prophecy of the historical Passover and its spiritual intent, as we shall see, was largely quite successful in an attempt to drive unbelief  and offense in the One True Messiah who indeed was fulfilling prophecy, and the One to whom all Israel belonged, whom they sought to disinherit by their opposition and the creation of dissent and unbelief into Him.  -- Brianroy]

53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.   (KJV)

53)   Therefore, Jesus - Yeshua  said to them,
              'Amen - So be it.  Amen - So be it.
               I lay down definite words and say to you,
               If perhaps you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man 
               and drink the blood of Him,
               you certainly do not have - hold - possess (nor will possess)
               eternal life within yourselves.

54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.   (KJV)

          the flesh of Me and drinking the blood of Me,
          in Me   remains - dwells - abides - lives,

57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.   (KJV)

57)   According as  the eternal living Father has sent forth out Me,
         and I also eternally live through the Father,

[My Comment:  Again, when I AM  (for that is His Name, Exodus 3:13-14) came out of Heaven, and declared to Moses that man shall not eat by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of GOD (Deuteronomy 8:3);  I AM in effect declared Himself to be the True Bread from Heaven, in spite of the presence of manna fallen from Heaven, even such was made manifest by the mere word spoken out of the mouth of GOD for it to be so, and it was so. 

 The Passover Lamb represents the Messiah, and the Communion Meal of the earliest Christians was adopted by the Church at Rome through Anicetus at the insistence of  John's the Apostle's disciple (and bishop of Smyrna since circa February 70 A.D.) only at the portion where the Second Matzoh and wine of the Passover meal is partaken.

60)   Accordingly - Therefore, many of the disciples - pupils - learners 
         of Him said, 
              'This, the intelligent word,  
               is hard and dried up - stiffingly dry and harsh
               [too violent and offensive to take and accept].

               Who is able - capable - empowered   to hear and listen 
               intently to it?'

61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?    (KJV)

               'Does this stumble you - trip you (up) - offend you?'

62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?    (KJV)

62)   Perhaps if therefore you attentively gaze and carefully observe
         the Son of Man going and ascending up to where He was before
         previously?

[My Comment:  Many of Jesus' disciples some 47 days after the Resurrection and some 3 days before Pentecost saw exactly just that in Acts 1:9-11].
         

63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.    (KJV)

63)   The spirit, it is of which (that) makes eternally alive.  
         The flesh certainly does not profit - increase - heap up an 
         advantage; certainly not then.

          The statements - sayings - teachings - words  which I 
          randomly speak to you,   it is spirit and are eternal life.

[My comment:  While the flesh may certainly profit in this temporary life in fitness enhancing and heaping up advantages, Jesus clearly states that with respect to eternal life, physical fitness or health, one way or the other, holds no advantages in and of themselves.  It is the possession, trust, and use of the words of Jesus that gives one advantage, because Jesus is the sole path for humanity into eternal life.  -- Brianroy]
        

64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.    (KJV)

64)   But (there) are out of you some certain ones who are 
         certainly not believing and trusting,'

         because out from (the) beginning Jesus knew who are those 
         perhaps not believing and trusting,
         and who is he betraying Him and giving or throwing  (Him) 
         over the side     [to His enemies].

65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.   (KJV)

65)   And   He laid down definite words and said, 
            'Through this  [For this reason]
             I have told you that no one  is able - capable - empowered

             unless perhaps it be given of the Father of Me's
             own good will and accord to him.'

                  statements - sayings - teachings - words
