My Comments in Green.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
(KJV)
17) Then Jesus discerningly answered them,
'The
Father of Me works - labors - actively exerts (performance)
until - unto - as long as
this present moment - now.
And I - I also work - labor - actively exert (performance).'
(AWPR)
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only
had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself
equal with God. (KJV)
18) Through this, accordingly - therefore
the Judeans - the Jews [of the Hebrews - of the 13 tribes of
Israel]
[all] (the
more) sought and strove to find (cause, an excuse)
to immediately kill Him - to
immediately put Him to death,
because He certainly not only
loosed - unbound
the Shabbat - the Sabbath;
but also laid down definite
words and called GOD
His own Father,
making - producing - causing
Himself (to be)
equal in quality and equal in
dignity to GOD.
(AWPR)
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto
you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for
what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
(KJV)
19) Accordingly - Therefore, Jesus - Yeshua
discerningly judged -
discerningly answered
and said to them,
'Amen.
Amen. - So be it. So be it.
I lay
down definite words to you.
The Son
is certainly not able - capable - empowered
to make -
form - produce - bring about - do
from
Himself perhaps if may not / unless - except
He may
(with the eyes) see and perceive and understand
what the
Father is
doing -
bringing about - causing - making,
because
whatever that One
does - brings about - causes - makes,
these
things also the Son
does - brings about - causes - makes
in
equally like manner - likewise.
(AWPR)
20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that
himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may
marvel. (KJV)
20) Because the Father dearly loves the Son,
and shows - exhibits -
displays for view to Him
all things which He does
- brings about - causes - makes.
And greater and more ancient works of performance
(than) these will He
show - exhibit - display to Him,
in order that you may be
struck with
(an admiring) wonder and
astonishment.
(AWPR)
21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so
the Son quickeneth whom he will. (KJV)
21) For as much - Just as - Exactly like
the Father raises up (as though
from sleep)
the corpse - the dead
and makes alive
[and quivering as though a catch of
living
fish or living animal game];
so this One, the Son also,
whom He wills - intends - has
in mind - desires,
He makes alive
[and quivering as though a catch of living fish
or
living animal game].
(AWPR)
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto
the Son: (KJV)
22) Because the Father certainly not
separates - discerns -
distinguishes - Judges.
Not then, but all the Judgement
He has of His own good
will and accord
given to the Son:
(AWPR)
23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father.
He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
(KJV)
23) In order that all may
honor - reverence -
value as as an esteemed prize
the Son, according
as they
honor - reverence -
value as as an esteemed prize
the Father.
He (who) may not
honor - reverence -
value as as an esteemed prize
the Son, certainly
does not
honor - reverence -
value as as an esteemed prize
the Father,
the One having
dispatched - sent Him.
(AWPR)
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and
believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into
condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (KJV)
24) Amen. Amen. - So be it. So be it.
I lay down definite words and
say to you,
that listening intently to and
hearing the intelligent words of Me
and trusting - believing
the (One) having dispatched - sent Me,
has - holds - possess and
continues to possess
perpetual eternal life;
and shall certainly not come
into Judgement,
but has passed - but has
traversed and gone over
out of death into eternal
life.
(AWPR)
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is,
when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall
live. (KJV)
25) Amen. Amen. - So be it. So be it.
I lay down definite
words and say to you,
that an hour is coming
(so as to make a public appearance),
and now - at [from] this present time [forth], it is
at what time then the
corpse - the dead
will intently the
Voice of the Son of GOD,
and those hearing
will have life - will live.
(AWPR)
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son
to have life in himself; (KJV)
26) Because as much - just as - even as the Father
has - holds - possesses
and continues to possess
eternal life in Himself,
thus this One in this manner
gave of His own good
will and accord also to the Son
to have - hold - possess
and continue to possess
eternal life in Himself.
(AWPR)
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he
is the Son of man. (KJV)
27) He also of His own good will and accord gave
the power - permission -
authority to do or not do,
and Judgement to do -
make - bring about - cause - perform,
because He is
(the) Son of Man [the Christ - the Messiah].
(AWPR)
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that
are in the graves shall hear his voice, (KJV)
28) Do not be struck with wonder and astonishment (at) this:
because (there) comes an hour
in which all those in
the memorial tombs - the
sepulchers
will listen intently and will
hear the Voice of Him,
(AWPR)
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the
resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of
damnation. (KJV)
29) And will go out and come forth,
those having done -
worked - performed - brought about
the good - useful -
virtuous (and spiritually profitable)
into a standing
(physical) Restoration - a Resurrection
of eternal life.
Then those, having practiced repeatedly and habitually
the vile - evil - wicked
- depraved - corrupt
into a standing (physical)
Restoration - a Resurrection
of Judgement - of
separation and condemnation / punishment.
(AWPR)
[The righteous will be given perfect bodies of perpetual perfection in form and health, probably likened to teenagers of various years within that range, while the damned get (if I understand this correctly) the most diseased and rotting state their bodies had for their resurrection of condemnation or punishment, in which their disbelief in the Son of GOD is absolutely and bodily manifest before all as a testimony against them, before being bound hand and foot and cast away into the Lake of Fire by the Angels (Cf. Matthew 13:47-50, 22:13, 25:31-46; Revelation 20:11-15) at the orders issued by the Son of GOD, which the Father has already ordained as pre-approved beforehand. -- Brianroy]
30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my
judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father
which hath sent me. (KJV)
30) I certainly am not able - capable -
empowered
to do - make - form -
produce - bring about from Myself,
not even one (thing).
According as I (intently) hear, I Judge;
and My Judgement is
righteously just,
because I certainly do not
seek and strive to find
My own will [to bring about My own good pleasure],
but the will - intent -
desire - purpose in mind
of the (One) sending -
dispatching Me: Father.
(AWPR)
31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
(KJV)
31) If perhaps I witness - testify round
about - concerning
Myself, the witness -
testimony of Me is certainly not
the True Reality (of things as
they really are).
(AWPR)
32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the
witness which he witnesseth of me is true. (KJV)
32) There is another of a like kind that
witnesses - testifies
round about - concerning Me,
and I awaringly know that the
witness - testimony which he
witnesses - testifies
concerning Me
is the Truth - the True
Reality (of things as they really are).
(AWPR)
33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto the truth.
(KJV)
33) You have sent forth out up alongside to John,
and he has witnessed -
testified
to the Truth - to the
True Reality (of things as they really are).
(AWPR)
34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that
ye might be saved. (KJV)
34) I then, certainly do not accept - receive
- take and lay hold of
the witness - testimony
near to man,
but I lay down definite words
and say these things
in order that you may be saved
- delivered
[from destruction and loss].
(AWPR)
35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a
season to rejoice in his light. (KJV)
35) That one there was a fiery burning and shining
forth - illuminating
[olive oil] lamp.
You then, were willing -
intending - desiring - having in mind
to leap for joy and skip
in delight - to dance for joy - to
exult or rejoice
up alongside for an hour
in the illuminating light of him.
(AWPR)
36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which
the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of
me, that the Father hath sent me. (KJV)
36) Then I have - hold - possess and continue to
possess
a more ancient and
greater witness - testimony
than of John,
because of the work
performances which the Father has
of His own good will
and accord given Me,
in order that I may
make them complete - perfect - finished.
The work performances
themselves that I do,
witness - testify
round about - concerning Me,
because / that
the Father, Me has sent forth out.
(AWPR)
37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of
me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
(KJV)
37) And Father, He having sent forth and dispatched
Me,
He has testified -
witnessed round about - concerning Me.
Certainly not even the
Voice of Him have you heard,
never yet at any
time;
certainly not
even His external form have you seen."
(AWPR)
[My comment on verse 37: Briefly. The last words here
of Jesus - Yeshua were explosive as mind blowing as though being in the nuclear blast zone just outside of ground zero in
their shock to the one seeing and hearing. It was beyond comprehension to
all living in the First Century A.D. had known and been taught, and it was a
lost knowledge once known to their forefathers. Adam in the Garden of
Eden (e.g. Genesis 3:9-10) who talked with the LORD GOD (not to mention
regularly seeing Him, Enoch who walked with GOD and was snatched away by GOD
(Genesis 5:24), Noah who talked to GOD (Genesis 6:13 ff.), Abram who talked
with GOD (Genesis 15:1 ff.) and seen the fiery furnace of his presence between
the two halves of the sacrifice (Genesis 15:17), Jacob who physically wrestled
with GOD (Genesis 32:24-30), Moses who spoke with GOD (Exodus 3:4 - 4:17), all
the people of Israel who heard GOD's voice at Mount Sinai and lamented and
begged not to hear it for fear of perishing (Exodus 20:19, context in Exodus
19:17 - 20:22), all these heard and/or saw GOD, but not GOD the Father.
And we haven't even addressed other instances outside the first 2 books
of the Old Testament.
In other words, Jesus - Yeshua was revealing
to a propagandized generation that their GOD is more than a single person, and
yet a single being and single entity. The 70 elders of Israel and
others with Moses who ascended the Mount who saw the reflection of GOD in the
crystal clear ground (Exodus 24:1,9-11) or Moses seeing the literal form of GOD's
back parts in the after-glow of his glory or lingering stream of light (Exodus
33:17-23), these did NOT see GOD the Father, and yet they saw GOD. And
who did they see and hear? God the Son, He standing now before them
clothed in humanity as He said He would in the prophecies of the Law and the
Prophets. All of a sudden, passages such as Malachi 3:1
"Behold, I will send My messenger, and he shall prepare
the way before Me:
and the Lord whom ye seek,
shall suddenly come to His Temple,
even the Messenger of the Covenant
whom ye delight in:
behold, He shall come,
saith the LORD of Hosts." (King James Version)
were now
fulfilled right before their eyes, and it was difficult to believe, because
they had been reared up to believe Oral Traditions and conflicting legal
rulings of rabbinic sages of times near to them over the Scriptures, the words
of GOD and even the words of Moses which they alleged to elevate even more
highly than GOD Himself...and that sinful and erring method was the problem.
It is a problem that permeates and corrupts a majority of (but not all)
Jewish minds today, in which Talmud and personal rabbis must be believed
first over that of Scripture, and that is an egregious error perpetuated by
stubbornness and idolatry by means of "tradition" on their part down
to this day.
