Galatians: Chapter 1
King James Version (KJV) in aqua Blue
Alternate Word Pictures with Reiterations Version (AWPR) in Yellow
My Comments are in Green
1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by
Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) (KJV)
1) Paul, an apostle [one who is sent],
certainly not from men,
certainly not then through man,
but through Jesus Christ and Father GOD,
He having raised Him (from lying down)
upright out of (the) dead - upright out of the corpse.
(AWPR)
2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches
of Galatia: (KJV)
2) And all those brothers together (in company and associated)
with me,
to the called out ones - to the Churches
of Galatia:
(AWPR)
3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from
our Lord Jesus Christ, (KJV)
3) Rejoicing grace to you, and peace [in mind, body, and spirit]
from Father GOD and our LORD, Jesus Christ,
(AWPR)
4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us
from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: (KJV)
4) He having of His own good will and accord given Himself
over - in behalf of - for the sake of - on account of
the sins of us,
in such a manner that He might select - choose and take us out,
out of the in standing - in enduring - in continuance
age of evil / evil world [in its age or duration of time]
down in / according to
the will (and good pleasure) of the GOD and Father of us:
(AWPR)
5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. (KJV)
5) Whose (is) the thoughtful recognition and honor duly rendered -
Whose (is) the Glory,
into the Ages of the Ages. Amen.
(AWPR)
6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called
you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: (KJV)
6) I admiringly wonder - I reverently marvel
that in this (one) manner (you)
so nimbly and swiftly - so quickly and promptly
are being transported - are being transferred
from He having called - summoned - invited you
in (the) rejoicing grace of Christ
into another (but) different Gospel,
(AWPR)
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you,
and would pervert the gospel of Christ. (KJV)
7) Which is certainly not another of the same kind.
If perhaps not, there are some agitating and stirring
up trouble [spreading doubt, emotional anxiety and perplexity],
willing - desiring - having in mind the intent or purpose
to change and turn about the direction of the Gospel of Christ
from the midst of [it, from in and amongst you].
(AWPR)
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other
gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. (KJV)
8) But even if perhaps we, or an angel out of Heaven,
evangelize - preach a Good News - proclaim a Gospel
to you, near to (but falling short) / aside from
what Gospel we evangelized, having proclaimed to you,
let him be by vow declared and made known
(that he has been) by vow given over and placed.
[He is given over to no longer be aided, touched,
communicated with, or helped in any way.]
(AWPR)
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach
any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (KJV)
9) (Just) As we said before, also now at this present moment
I lay down definite words and say again,
If perhaps a certain one - anyone of you
evangelizes - preaches a good news - proclaims a Gospel
near to (but falling short) / aside from
what you have taken up and seized - what you have received
into possession [for yourselves],
let him be by vow declared and made known
(that he has been) by vow given over and placed
[no longer to be aided, touched, communicated with, or
helped in any way]
for now, at this present moment.
(AWPR)
10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please
men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. (KJV)
10) Do I (with kindness) confidently persuade - convince
men, or GOD?
Or do I seek and strive to find an adaptation pleasing and
fitting (to be joined)
[down to the feet, as a lower part of a robe]
to men?
If perhaps for - because - yet - still men
I pleased (by joining, adapting, fitting in),
I certainly would not be an attending and ministering slave
of Christ.
(AWPR)
11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was
preached of me is not after man. (KJV)
11) Then I declared and made known to you, brothers,
the Gospel - the Good News - the Evangelism:
the Gospel which was proclaimed under me,
[Note: infers a sizeable group of evangelicals led by Paul ]
because it is certainly not down upon / according to man.
(AWPR)
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught
it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. (KJV)
12) For I certainly not from (the proximity of) man
have taken up and seized it - have received it,
not even - neither - nor
was I instructed [as by a tutor] - taught.
But through a revealing and uncovering with interpretation
of that which was seen and shown of Jesus Christ.
(AWPR)
13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the
Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and
wasted it: (KJV)
13) For you listened intently and heard of
my turning about actions / my deeds of conduct
when in the Judaism, because down with a
throwing beyond - exceeding and surpassing (excellence
or zeal)
I pursued and followed after - I (hunted and ) persecuted
the called out ones - the Church of GOD
and ravaged and destroyed it.
(AWPR)
14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals
in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my
fathers. (KJV)
14) And (with each strike, cutting, or beating [upon others])
progressed - proceeded forward in the Judaism
over (and above) many
of the same age together - contemporaries
in the that which becomes - in the race - in the stock
of me:
abundantly more [than any of my contemporaries]
a zealot - one openly professing and demonstrating acts or
remonstrations of affection, envy, jealousy, fervor (for or over);
being in possession and existing in and of the paternally
passed [from father to son] ancestral of me traditions.
(AWPR)
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my
mother's womb, and called me by his grace, (KJV)
15) Then, when GOD thought or considered to be good,
He having marked out and boundaried away from -
He having separated me out of
my mother's hollow - my mother's womb,
and having called forth - and having summoned and invited
through the rejoicing grace of Him
(AWPR)
16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among
the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: (KJV)
16) To unveil - To uncover (with interpretation that which
was previously hidden, veiled, covered, kept secret)
and reveal the Son of Him in me,
in order that
I might evangelize - proclaim and preach as good news
in the ethnic nations.
I certainly did not straightway - immediately
lay up communication up alongside with (or before) - confer
with flesh and blood:
(AWPR)
17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were
apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus. (KJV)
17) Certainly not, then, did I come up and enter into Jerusalem
up alongside with the Apostles before me;
but I withdrew and departed - but I went away
into Arabia,
and again turned back and returned into Damascus.
(AWPR)
18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see
Peter, and abode with him fifteen days. (KJV)
18) Upon thereafter, in the midst of / after (about) 3 years,
I came up and went forth (so as to make a public appearance)
into Jerusalem
to personally ascertain and know the history from Peter,
and remained and dwelt - lived up alongside with him
15 days.
(AWPR)
19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the
Lord's brother. (KJV)
19) Then other (different ones) of the Apostles,
I certainly saw not and knew not
except Jacob / James, the brother of the LORD.
(AWPR)
20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before
God, I lie not. (KJV)
20) Then, what I write - what I inscribe to you:
behold, look and see,
in the face of - in the presence of - before GOD,
that I certainly do not
falsify [in what I say] - lie, defraud, cheat [in what I say].
(AWPR)
21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia; (KJV)
21) Upon thereafter,
I went forth (so as to make a public appearance)
into the inclines - climates - regions of Syria
and of Cilicia.
(AWPR)
22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which
were in Christ: (KJV)
22) Then I was not
perceived (by the mind) - not thoughtfully recognized
by countenance - by face
to the called out ones - to the Churches of Judea in Christ.
(AWPR)
23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in
times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. (KJV)
23) Then only - alone and by itself
they were intently listening and hearing
that he pursuingly chasing and persecuting
us at one time (in the past) whenever,
now evangelizes - now preaches the good news - now proclaims
the Gospel,
the trusting faith,
that which then at one time (in the past) whenever,
he ravaged and destroyed.
(AWPR)
24 And they glorified God in me. (KJV)
24) And they gave thoughtful recognition ascribing
honor and praise, and glorified GOD in me.
